Music plays an important role in our mission to be transformed from religious and irreligious people into Jesus people. The New Testament commands us to sing to Jesus and to one another. As we do so we are teaching one another through song (Colossians 3:16) and being filled with the Holy Spirit as we sing (Ephesians 5:19-20).
Because God has chosen to give singing such an important role in the life of the church we spend a lot of time trying to find music that adequately speaks to the diverse group of people that call Emmaus home while also providing theologically rich lyrics that teach us why and how to hope in Jesus.
Sometimes this means we write our own songs or create our own arrangements of ancient hymns. Our first CD Church Songs is a collection of 8 of these songs written and recorded by people within the Emmaus community. You can listen to snippets of the album below.
There’s also a story behind why and how we wrote each song. Click on any song title below to read that song’s story.
